Overview
Dimensioning a house is a complex and time consuming process that requires precise measurements of elements (walls, windows, doors) that are facing outside air. It is also important to identify the materials used in each part of the house, as each material has distinct thermal properties that can influence heat loss calculations.
The primary objective was to create an intuitive, reliable and fast tool, that would help installers and surveyors generate a heat loss report for their customers.
Solution
We developed a mobile scanner that lets the user create a 3D floor plan of a house by scanning each room as they go through the house. The user can generate a heat load report directly from the phone after they have finished the scan.
Additionally, users can also view and edit the data captured, through the web app. This was shown to be very useful when certain areas of the house was lacking important properties that would require manual input, thus also increasing the accuracy of the heat load calculation.
